Different Names for The Ego

The ego
the lower self
shadow
pain body
tar body
fears
illusions
limitations
the false self

How does the ego get created?

When we do not live in 100% truth, the ego grows.
When we chose to live in fear instead of light & love, the ego grows.
The ego is alive anywhere we are unwilling to look at and bring to the light.
The ego exists in ignorance and oppression.

How does the ego express itself?

The Ego expresses itself in many ways:

- resistance
- tightness in our bodies
- despair
- negative talk
- procrastination
- boredom
- defeatism
- judgement
- gossip
- not being present
- living in the past or future
- fear
- clinging
- complaining
- self- criticism
- shame
- criticism of others
- nervousness
- guilt
- name calling
- helplessness
- anxiety
- attachment
- condemnation of ourselves and others
- hopelessness
- competing with others
- evaluating ourselves and others
- worry

What are some qualities of the ego?

- gossip
- criticisim
- nagging
- complaining
- judgement
- condemning
- competing with others

What are some of the functions of the ego:

The ego likes to chatter and stay busy.
It likes to make us feel inferior or superior to others.
It likes to feel seperate from everything around us.
The ego does not like to live in the present, so it likes to make us live in the future or past.
It makes us feel like there is not enough (i.e. time, energy, resources, money, etc.).
The ego is small and ignorant and operates from a place of limitations.
The ego is an aspect of shadow and feeds on fear.

Six ego beliefs that keep us disconnected from The Source

- I am what I have
- I am what I do
- I am what others think of me
- I am seperate from everyone
- I am seperate from all that is missing in my life
- I am seperate from God/Goddess/All That Is

(Info from  the book "Be yourself" by Mike Robbins)

Being a Busy Bee

The ego likes to stay in motion.
It likes to chatter, gossip, and add its 2 cents
It like to stay in action and does not rest.
It likes to be a busy bee.
So when you find youself always having to say or do something,
it is just your ego.
It is the way of nature to have action and stillness.

Not Enough

Since the ego feels seperated from spirit,
it feels there is not enough,
so everthing needs to be fought over
food, money, energy, people, resources
there is always lack where the ego is

Feeling important

The ego likes to feel either inferior or superior to others
it is always judging to see what others have
and then conparing you to them
It can either bring you down
or puff you up

Not in the present

The ego does not like to live in the present
It lives in the past of future
The present seems borng to the ego
It likes to create dramaic scenarios and stories

Dealing with Your Ego

Yes, your ego can be a pain in the butt at times
with its judgement, criticisms, and negative talk.
Learn to hear it and let it go.
Learn how to move past it.
Learn to ignore it.
It is not the truth.
Use positive affirmations and prayers to conteract it.

Dealing with Other People's Ego

Remember that we all have lights and shadows.
Some work on the shadows more than others.
Learn that other people's ego are not your problem,
it is theirs.
Don't take other people's egos persoanlly.
Learn to ignore them
Take the higher road and be kind instead of reacting.
Learn to let go of reacting to other's ego.
If you can, just do your best to not spend time around people who wish to only live through their shadows.

Expressing Our Shadow in Healthy Ways

1. talk and share with someone you love and trust
2. journal your thoughts
3. do a ritual / ceremony
4. speak your truth in the present moment
5. connect with issues in your daily spiritual practice
6. join a self-help group or workshop

How can we heal the ego:

We can heal the ego by being honest with ourselves about what we are thinking and feeling in the present now. We can use our spiritual practice and healing work to help the shadow to come up. Ego can be addressed by being more honest with those around us and dealing with the unpleasant situations. Ego dissipates when you learn to stay present. By setting a clear intention to bring more light and love into our daily lives, we increase the light and lessen the dark.

Seven Steps to Overcoming Ego's hold on you

- stop being offended
- let go of your need to win
- let go of your need to be right
- let go of your need to be superior
- let go of your need to have more
- let go of identifying yourself on the basis of your achievements
- let go of how others think about you

Detachment & Non-Attachment

Learning how to detach or be non-attached is a great quality to have
when living your daily life
Not allowing outcomes, your thoughts, other people opionions, etc.
to get the best of you is important
It will keep you present, happier, and in a place of trust
and it will help you to move past the illusions of your ego

We learn to accept ourselves, forgive ourselves, love ourselves, and move forward more easily

Becoming Our Authentic Self

By facing and healing our shadows,
we can hold more light,
we can be more of our true self,
we can think, talk, and act from a place of clarity and truth
The best gift we can give to ourselves, others and the whole is being our authentic self
Being who we truly are in each moment is a practice and a process, it is ongoing

Positive Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that help focus your awareness on your power and ability to create what you want. They are stated in the present tense, such as "I have unlimited abundance." Your thoughts and feelings create your reality, and as you say these positive statements to yourself, you can begin to create them as true.

These affirmations were designed by Orin and DaBen to open and expand your awareness of what you can have, to align you with your soul's wisdom, and to assist you in attuning with the unlimited abundance of the universe.  Most of the affirmations start with "I".  We use "I" to refer to all of who you are: your greater self, also called your higher self, your soul, your Divine Self, the part of you that is connected to the God-within, or the Presence, the One Life, the deeper part of your being, as well as the ego and personality self.  As you think or say affirmations, you are calling upon the greater "I" within you to be present and express Itself, opening the doorway to experience a new, higher reality.

Some positive affirmations:

- I appreciate all that I am and all that I have.
- I follow my life purpose as it unfolds from moment to moment. I choose my highest path each moment.
I take time to be quiet every day and to listen within.
I have all the answers within me.
My consciousness is expanding everyday.
I trust that the universe is perfect and always working for my higher good.
I choose positive, uplifting thoughts to put into my mind.
